Musky Mania 57, October 2016
A pretty nice weather weekend for MM57 and the key is Mr. Musky did not win. MM57 started out with Greg Freidrich and Corey Earl both catching fish on Friday as did Matt Reiter with a 39 incher caught on North Twin. The Friday night cookout made it through without rain and was a good time for those who attended.
Saturday saw a breezy day with mild temps, but musky action was slow, however Dave Nickel came through with a 36 ¾ incher caught on a jerk bait on Deerskin to secure Mr. Musky not winning. |
Tournament Winners
- John Reynder, N. Twin, 10/9, 43 ½", Bulldawg Pounder
- Wes Leiphart, Deerskin, 10/8, 37 ¼", Sucker
- Dave Nickel, Deerskin, 10/8, 36 ¾", Jerk Bait
Sunday was a beautiful day with two fish being caught; Wes Leiphart boated a 37 ¼ on a sucker on Deerskin, his first musky. Congrats to Wes, I think he’s hooked! John Reynder boated the big fish of the outing with 43 ½ incher caught on North Twin on a Bulldawg Pounder. Congrats to all who caught fish.
Thanks to Gary Borkowski for some great chili for Saturday’s lunch, a good chili day. Thanks to all our supporters; specifically Mark Melius and Musky Pete for their bucktails, Tom Mijal and Shadows on the Wolf for various items, Alain Houle (Alco Web Design) for his great work on the website, and Marti and Jen (North Twin Lodge) for their hospitality and the two night stay for a raffle prize. We greatly appreciate all the donations for prizes.
Please send your fish pics and any pics you took during the outing to Alain, the website will be updated sometimes this weekend. We discussed the possibility of moving out the fall MM outing to a week later to perhaps improve hitting a better sucker bite. It appeared from those attending that this was an ok idea, please provide me some feedback on your thoughts and we can further discuss at the MM58 Spring outing.
Gary and I stayed on for a couple more days of fishing and Gary boated a beautiful heavy 47 inchers on Big Sand on a sucker on Monday. We had another fish take a sucker on Sand on Tuesday on our last drift, fish turned out to be about a 24 inch spotted musky which had a 15-inch sucker sticking out of its mouth.
MM58 which will be held June 3rd and 4th. For those who did not attend MM57 but want to attend MM58 please contact Gordie for cabin space so we can confirm with Marti our needs. Good luck to all for your hunt for Mr. Musky for the rest of the season and hope to see you in the spring.
