Musky Mania 49, October 2012
Tournament Winners
|
Musky Mania 49 is in the books with 11 fish boated during the outing. With the week later timing, water temps were right for sucker action and a good number of folks had very good sucker action as well as on artificials both during the outing and pre-fishing on Thursday and Friday and for Gary and I primarily on suckers following MM on Sunday through Wednesday.
Corey Earl and Greg Freidrich boated some nice fish on Thursday and Friday and Mike Reiter and John Reynders boated three on Friday. Gary and I boated four fish following MM, we had five fish take suckers on Tuesday, but unfortunately only boated two. It appeared the smaller lakes had the lower water temps and provided the better sucker action. Friday’s cookout was a good chance to see folks again and the weather cooperated for an enjoyable evening and a blazing warm campfire. Saturday’s weather was a bit rainy, but great weather for chasing muskies with six fish caught on Twin and Pierre boating two of them on Twin by noon. Hot chili and sandwiches at the noon cookout were a welcome from the soggy weather, thanks to Kathy Peterson for the great chili. Door prizes were won by all, along with some great raffle prizes for some lucky winners and I do mean lucky, thanks Alain. Thanks again to all the supporters for providing door and raffle prizes, they are much appreciated. This outing we had several new supporters being Shadows on the Wolf (Tom Mijal), Fishouflage, and Smokey’s on the Bay. |
Saturday afternoon saw many folks heading for other waters with two more fish caught on Twin, one being a 34 incher caught by Tim Inglese, I think this was his first muskie caught during MM, congrats to Tim. The big fish for the day was boated by Corey Earl, a 38 ¾ inch caught on a Double D on Pioneer so that was the target to shoot for on Sunday. Several folks had some good action during the afternoon, especially on suckers, but just didn’t get hook ups or boat the fish.
Sunday brought dryer conditions and a bit more pleasant temps with five fish caught on Sunday, with the winning fish caught by Dave Nickel, a 42 ½ incher on a sucker and an additional fish caught after the closing time by John Reynders, a 39 ¼ incher. I guess you can call it a clean sweep for the top 3 fish caught; 1st and 2nd coming out of cabin 3 (Dave Nickel a 42 ½ incher), Corey Earl (a 38 ¾ incher), and Corey’s nephew Stephen Fredrick at 3rd (a 37 ½ incher). Congrats to the winners and to all who caught fish. Thanks again to North Twin Lodge (Marti and Jen) for the great accommodations and for the raffle prize of the Two Night Stay which was won by Alain. Thanks again to Alain for his handling of the distribution of the MM info and the Musky Mania website.
The MM 2013 spring outing will be the “Big MM 50”, June 1st and 2nd and we would like to do some special things; Musky Pete will be building an MM50 commemorative rod for the raffle, we will be meeting with EJ’s Sports for some possible apparel options (hats, shirts, etc;) when we have that info it will be sent out to the distribution for input on what they might prefer, we are looking at having a commemorative lure for all who attend, and also something special for the noon cookout. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know and we will send out to the distribution for review.
Thanks again for all who attended MM49 and good luck chasing Mr. Musky the rest of the season. Looking forward to a great spring “MM50”. Marti, I know many of you signed up, I will provide as soon as I get. Good luck to all chasing Mr. Musky this summer and hope to see you all at MM53.
