Musky Mania 48, June 2012
Tournament Winners
|
Another Musky Mania is in the books, with beautiful weather for the weekend and the cookout. MM48 saw 8 fish caught, action was a bit slower than expected, but overall I think all folks had some fish action. All fish were caught on Saturday, so Sunday anticipation was high that the winning fish could still be registered, but even though there were some good fish seen and some “almosts”, Musky Pete’s 40 ½ held up for 1st place.
Friday night’s cookout was great with folks having a chance to reacquaint and to meet some new folks. It also provided an opportunity for folks to sell or swap some of their equipment and lures, Dale Hans had some great looking custom baits. Corey’s group did a great job on Saturdays noon lunch, thanks again to all who contributed. Thanks again too to all of our sponsors, we had some great raffle and door prizes. The winning fish was caught by Musky Pete at 40 ½ inches, caught on a Top Raider on Catfish. Second place went to David Earl, with a 38 ½ caught on a Death Trap Weed Raper, how appropriate he would catch it on one of his own lures, good to see David back at Musky Mania. There was a tie for third place with Mike Reiter boating a 38 incher on North Twin on a bucktail and Scott Grasse boating a beautiful 38 inch tiger on North Twin. Jane and Perry Clough doubled up with Jane catching a 23 incher and Perry a 22 ½, both caught on Tenderfoot. Dick Grasse boated a 20 incher on North Twin on a Mepps bucktail. |
The largest fish registered was a unique musky boated by Glenn Melius, a “Bungee” musky, Glenn, hope you have a pic to send to Alain. Congratulations to all who caught fish make sure you get pics of your fish and other pics you may have taken to Alain so he can add to the MM website.
Gary and I stayed on to fish the rest of Sunday through Tuesday and yours truly after having several good fish almost take during the outing boated a nice a 43 incher on Tuesday on Sand.
I know folks were signing up for the fall MM49 which will be held October 13th and 14th, but I did not get a copy of the sign up sheet from Marti as yet so please provide your info again to Alain for cabin requests so I have for planning. The fall MM49 is going to be a bit later than usual due to Cranberry Fest timing, but this may be better for fall fishing.
As we have mentioned over the past couple of outings, as we approach MM50 for next spring we want to plan some special things; some being a possible commemorative lure, a shirt or some apparel item, a commemorative rod from Musky Pete, and other items/activities. Please provide me any ideas you might have and we will put together a survey to get folks thoughts.
Also, we have had some discussions about the continuation of Musky Mania beyond MM50 with the request of some possible new folks leading the coordination, so if there’s anyone interested please let me know. We have also discussed the possibility of simplifying things a bit; with just having the Friday night cookout and eliminating the Saturday noon lunch and the door/raffle prizes activities as it is becoming more difficult each year to obtain support for prizes. Again, please provide me any input you might have.
Thanks again to all who attended MM48 and to Jenny and Marti of North Twin Lodge for their great accommodations. Good luck to all chasing Mr. Musky this season and looking forward to see you in the fall at MM49.
