Musky Mania 01, Summer 1987
Musky Mania 01 started simply. Dale “Musky Pete” Peterson tells a bunch of guys at Kimberly-Clark about the great Musky fishing in Northern Wisconsin. So in the summer of 1987, an outing was set up to fish Musky around the Boulder Junction and Sayner area.
Musky Pete, Tim McFarland, John Hoover, Dave Kuen, and Al Schlinz set off to fish Palmer Lake North East of Boulder Junction. Musky Pete stays at Mel’s Woods Trailer Park on Razorback Lake outside Sayner. His father in law Art Clough has a mobile home there. |
The rest of the gang camped at Razorback Lake campground which was right next to the trailer park. We put in a hard day fishing Palmer lake and Tim did have a nice fish on, in the 40” range, but the fish was too smart for Tim. First time fishing for Tim so the fish had him tied in knots. Charged the boat and got lots of slack in the line and then took off away from the boat and pulled free.
Another boat came by and asked us if we saw anything and Hoover said “We just lost a nice fish right around the corner”. I had to tell him Musky fishermen do not tell others where fish are.
We had a good lunch at one of the campsites on Palmer. We did not catch any fish that day. We fished again the next day, Sunday, and did not catch anything again so Mr. Musky won the very first ever Musky Mania. We had a great time and guys at K-C heard about our outing and couldn’t wait till next year to join us for Musky Mania 02.
